Information - Caring Critters

Our Program
Caring Critters is a non-profit, all volunteer, Houston-area organization.  Our group is comprised of people and their animals participating in Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) activities.  Since 1988, Caring Critters has enhanced the lives of our clients by providing them opportunities for interaction with animals in a positive, nurturing environment.

Our Volunteers
Caring Critters has over 200 volunteers making scheduled visits to over 25 facilities in the greater Houston area.  These include nursing homes, hospitals, psychiatric and rehabilitation centers and classrooms for special-needs children.   With a few exceptions, visits are twice a month for an hour.  AAT visits are made weekdays, evenings and weekends.

Getting Involved
The prospective new volunteers must attend an all day orientation workshop.   Workshops are held twice each year, in the Spring and the Fall.  The following Saturday you will return for one hour at your convenience for temperament testing.

The next workshop is Saturday, April 24, 2010.  Requests for applications will be accepted beginning January 2, 2010 through January 22, 2010.  Workshop information and applications will be mailed in mid February and will be due back March 6th 2010
